The Joint Center of Excellence in Integrated Nanosystems (JCIN)

I am currently the Vice Executive Director of Life sciences and Environment Research Institute. From 2014 to 2017, I was honored to Join the Center of Excellence in Integrated Nanosystems (JCIN) as Co-Director working side by side with the 2016 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry Sir J. Fraser Stoddart. It’s a cooperation between King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Northwestern University (NU). I joined (from 1997 to 1998) the Biotechnology group in the Petroleum Energy Center (PEC) at Shimizu City, SHIZUOKA Prefecture, JAPAN, focusing my research activity on harnessing the genetic engineering in the development of highly efficient bacteria for petroleum bio-refining process. From 2010 to 2013, I joined the team at IBM Almaden Research Center (IBM-ARC) (at San Jose, CA, USA) expanding on the cooperation between KACST and IBM in the nano-membrane development for water desalination (RO membranes). I was awarded in 2008 with an invitation for an oral presentation and the Gisela Mosig award at the American Society of Microbiology (108th ASM General Meeting, June 1-5, 2008, Boston, Massachusetts).
